the story of Maki Maehara and Umi Asanagi does eventually evolve into a complex friendship dynamic that involves a love triangle of sorts, heavily featuring Umi’s best friend, Yuu Amami. Umi confesses to Maki rather than the other way around. She essentially confesses her love and kisses him (around Volume 2 of the light novel/manga), kicking off their relationship while Maki is still processing his own feelings.

This is the first appearance of the father of Asanagi umi’s Father. The name is Daichi Asanagi. To be honest, it was pretty awkward between Maehara maki and Umi’s father. When the conversation started it was very uncomfortable for both sides. It was the time when Umi and her mother came in and made things comfortable between them.
Though Maehara cracked down in the wrong time during the dinner at Umi’s place. Umi managed to calm maehara down. later on maehara and umi’s father had a private conversation between them. Where Umi’s father, Daichi talked about what he got to know about maehara and his family from his wife and his daughter. Specially about the divorce of the parents of Maehara.
Praising Maki of holding onto the emotions of relationships of his parents. patted him on the head. Also told him to let his feelings out a lot more thus it will help his feel a lot more better and more released in life. Otherwise, it will come in to haunt him. He listened to him well. He also adviced that a tantrum can actually help in releasing the tension and pressure inside him.
Maki understood the matter, the fact that the divorce of his parents of took a serious toll on him. So, he has decided to release himself a bit more. Which will be better for him later on. Daichi became the father figure that Maki needed at that moment. That’s why this scene and the moment is so significant.
