Story of Gabimaru, The Strongest Tensen!

gabimaru

If you are new to the Hell’s Paradise Anime. To catch you upto speed here’s the plot:

Hell’s Paradise Plot:

Hells paradise follows Gabimaru “the hollow” a ninja and convict from the Iwagakure clan as he ventures to a mystic island in pursuit of the elixir of life. A simple premise but one that’s enhanced so brilliantly by the general atmosphere of the show.

Where Gabimaru’s story starts:

gabimaru

Gabimaru started life as nothing more than a weapon. Raised to kill, trained to feel nothing, and to die without regret. He is known as the strongest ninja in the whole world, given the name Hollow. However, something insane awakens. Every power-up he gets in Hell’s Paradise comes from breaking that lie. Through evolution, Gabimaru unlocks terrifying power that challenges the immortal Tencent.

Hell’s Paradise is about Gabimaru seeking the meaning of life. Convicts are shackled for their crimes on death row and saw no escape except for one, the Shogun’s pardon. Each person is accompanied by executioners. The convicts are sent to the mystical island of divine paradise to retrieve the elixir of life and the one to return with the prize to the shogun. They shall receive his pardon and live a normal life.

Now the first thing you need to know about Gabimaru is that it’s not even his real name. Born in Iwa Gakur to a joining couple, his original name was Saku. Raised in the most fed and strongest ninja village, children are trained from birth to be stone cold assassins. And the training was so grueling that only one out of 10 children survive it. They would be taught the ways of killing, endurance, and learning to abandon the values of life.

For example, Iwaakare would make their children inhale a painstimulating drug and have them endure it for 3 days and nights until they eventually become used to the pain. Now, to make things even worse, the women in the village were used as tools to supply the village with more shinobi by giving birth to children.

The village chief was rumored to be immortal and his word was absolute law. And above all else, one rule stood above the rest. Never abandon the village. But Gabimaru’s parents wanted to live a normal life. So when they attempted to flee, they were executed in front of their son. That resulted in the chief becoming Saku’s adopted father and putting him among the Gabimaru candidates.

gabimaru

In chapter 87, it is revealed that Gabimaru was blessed with physical capabilities, a sense for battle and raw talent that puts him ahead of everyone else. Naturally, he would clear the training with ease. And this would lead to all the other children bullying him. And since he had no emotions, Saku was more impressive than ever. Everyone was jealous or admired him because none measured up to him. So, the chief would assume Saku massacred his bullies, but in reality, it was someone named Shija that was obsessed with Saku gaining the Gabimaru title.

But here’s the crazy twist you must know. This is because the village maintains the legend of its name. The Hollow is the strongest ninja that is said to be an ageless, unkillable killing machine. Each time people witness him die, he seems to return to life to dispel all doubts. Gabimaru is the reason Iwaakur and its chief are so feared across Japan. But in truth, it’s just all a myth. The chief was not immortal. And each time a Gabimaru is killed, another one takes his place. Our Gabby Mararu in the anime called Saku, he’s the 58th.

He did the right of succession ceremony, where he had to fight to the death with the Gabimaru of his time in order to fully earn his name. Now, he was so much stronger than any other person in history that Saku destroyed him instantly. And this pleased the chief more than he could imagine. However, Saku would end up being the last holder of the title because through an arranged marriage at 16 years old, he found a life in Yui, a girl scarred to never have a future outside of her father’s control.

Yui would be the first person to treat Gabimaru like a human that meant something. She was treated by society the same way he was. Because of her scar, she was seen as flawed and undesirable in a village that prized strength and beauty. That’s why her acceptance of Gabimaru is so powerful. She sees the real Saku and claims he can change.

That despite his past sins, he was qualified to have normaly in his life like other people, and that he should at least have one person who accepts him for who he is. Now, over time, Gabimaru fell in love with Yui as she was the only person in his life that did not view him or fear him as a monster. And that very bond becomes the awakening that allows Gabimaru to grow beyond being a tool.

But suddenly it was all taken away. Since Gabimaru gained a conscience after marriage, he kept sparing targets on missions and that got on everyone’s nerves. He eventually asked to stop being assigned killing missions, but that escalated when he committed the biggest crime of all, asking for a normal life? For that crime, Gabby Maru would never see his wife again.

He was arrested by the government and put up for execution. But each time they tried to kill him, nothing worked. burning him alive, pulling him limb from limb, slicing his neck. It all amounted to failure. Gabby Mararu’s strength was too much due to his body functions going beyond normal limits. However, the Shogun calls for the death row convicts to compete in acquiring the elixir of life from an island in exchange for a pardon.

Eventually, he meets Sagiri, who sees right through him. Because deep down, Gabby Mararu actually wanted to live to see his wife again. So Saguri cuts him a deal. Follow the Shogun’s mission. But there’s another problem. There were too many criminals for one ship. So he instantly turns it into a full-on blood bomb. Gabimaru straight up cleared most of them, then stood there unfazed, farming aura while staring down Sagiri.

Now, Gapim Maru didn’t particularly like that his hands were tied up, and this was a problem for Sagitti, but his strength is tested immediately on the island. Warped Caun throws an iron ball to the face, intending to kill everyone to get the elixir, but Gabby Mararu puts this chump in his place by using the monk’s own weapons and making him mince meat.

The others only get a taste of his power, but they’re already in awe of Gabimaru’s strength. It’s the result of inhuman conditioning. Even before learning cao, he already displays feats that feel impossible like, you know, dislocating his neck at will, stopping his heartbeat, and hardening vital points in his body.

And that’s when Gabimaru realizes that he’s hesitating. The so-called hollow ninja was never meant to feel this way. This means his wife Yui did change him. So, for the first time in his life, he accepts the desire to live. However, that realization actually freaks him out.

Gabimaru starts ranting, claiming that emotions are making him weak, that love is turning him soft, and that will result in him getting killed on this island. But that’s when Saguri points out the truth. If emotions were weaknesses, he would have died already. So, instead of punishing him for trying to kill her, she makes another offer. Gabimaru must see this mission through, find the elixir and prove that even someone like him deserves a normal life.

This is his right of passage to absolve himself of sin. So this marks the first step towards his true power awakening following another path. And honestly, without Saguri being by his side from day one, Gabimaru wouldn’t even have a chance at all because he’s actually mentally unstable. People joke about shipping these two, but what Gabimaru actually needed was a romance.

He needed an anchor of morality to reshape him as a person. The island is designed to break people where even Gabimaru starts doubting whether his wife Yui even exists at all. But Saguri gives him support and in exchange he gives her a purpose that she’s been searching for her entire life.

She spent her life executing countless criminals, stuck between duty and guilt. However, Gabimaru makes her confront the idea that even someone raised as a weapon still deserves a future, which allows us to talk about Gabimaru’s next power up. He becomes the only human on the island to survive the giant of Baen, Roku Roa.

And with one slap from this childminded giant, you would actually be dead instantly. But Gabimaru tanks the hit, only ending up with a broken leg. And unlike most fighters, he knows how to actually adapt. His blaze works by rapidly heating his body, igniting the oils on his skin to generate flames. And from there, everything basically becomes a weapon.

He can light his fists on fire, turn rocks into flaming artillery with stonestorm, uproot trees and launch them like missiles, and he can even fire flames directly from his mouth. Now, in this fight, he sets the surrounding forest on fire, limiting his opponent’s movement and creating an opening Sagiri needs to finish the job.

And by this point, the team are moving together with Yuzeria and her executioner, Santa. That’s when they encounter a mysterious girl named May, whose abilities are completely unfamiliar. They reveal that the elixir of life lies in Hai, the palace at the center of the island, home to the immortal beings known as the 10 cent.

And reaching it basically means walking straight into death. Gabimaru slips away from the gang when they sleep. He still doesn’t trust anyone. So he heads straight towards the objective alone. However, Gabimaru runs straight into Zu Jin, one of the 10en who looks down on humans as disposable.

Zu Jin enters Kishi Khai, their true combat form which no human should be even able to survive. Yet even still, Gabimaru keeps up. He adapts midfight and forces Zu Jin on the defensive. Getting close enough that for a moment it genuinely looks like a human might kill a god. But things go wrong. Gabimaru loses the fight and is saved by Mate. But they learn that immortality does not mean invincibility. And this is where Gabimaru’s real strength starts to show. When outmatched, he is fully prepared to take the enemy down with him.

That willingness to die if it means winning is something that immortal tensson do not possess. And this is for Shadow to be a one up during the end of this video when he faces the final boss. So before we get ahead of ourselves, Gabimaru, he rejoins the group. They are stopped by the doshies, the only beings permitted to guard the Tensson Palace.

And then that’s where we learn something massive. All ninjutsu is just tao. It’s the fundamental life force flowing through all living things. Think of it as spiritual energy tied directly to identity and balance. Every person, plant, and being on the island possesses tao, and how well you control it determines how strong you are. So everything Gabimaru has been doing his entire life was Tao manipulation without him understanding it.

Tao sharpens Gabimaru’s senses. It lets him read environments instantly, predicting enemy movements through heightened awareness and suppress his own presence. So now his power is yet again getting another level up. Through guidance from May Fui and his bowels against how users like the centipede and the butterfly doshi, Gabimaru develops a new fighting style, his most dangerous ability is developed and that is to redirect to meaning opponents with greater output can be punished and defeated.

This allows him to fight god tier tow users without needing higher reserves. So against enemies like doshi, gararu effectively negates the gap in strength. So in that moment they realize, wait, Gabby Marimaru is evolving too fast. We are cooked. And as a result, even before Gabimaru defeats a single Tensen, he’s already being compared to one.

That’s how abnormal his strength is. But his first true demonstration of Tao, that actually takes a heavy toll. Gabby Mararu collapses, coughing up blood and loses consciousness. And when he wakes up, parts of himself are missing. He doesn’t recognize the people around him and doesn’t trust them. But most importantly, he doesn’t remember his wife, Yui.

This is the cost of uncontrolled cow. At this point, Gabimaru still hasn’t fully accepted himself as a person. However, he continues moving with the group and that’s when he runs into Aza Chob. Chbe has unlocked Flower Tao, an imperfect version of the power used by the Tensen themselves. And against it, Gabimaru is completely outmatched because he’s unstable.

The fight only ends when May intervenes, knocking Gabimaru unconscious once again. When he wakes up a second time, the damage is worse. Gabimaru still has no memory of working with the group. And in his confusion, he attacks Sagiri. But this is where she actually saves him by going on top of him. And I don’t know what I should say, but we all saw that scene. But what she’s actually doing is using wood towel. She restores his spirit and reconnects him. And for the first time, Garimaru’s power and humanity are aligned, resulting in a boost of strength. Everyone in the group instantly recognizes this and admits that he is the one that can destroy the tens.

Their plan must revolve around him. He then decides to share everything he’s learned about Tao with the others in chapter 60 and shares his humanity by understanding May showing empathy and wanting to escape the island with the whole group. He tells them to stop fighting head on and start reading the opponent’s element.

Understanding this elemental cycle means you don’t need to overpower a tenscent. You only need the right matchup. He teaches them to sense tower and to detect the tendon in the core where energy gathers and to strike there instead of just wasting your strength. He shows them how to redirect force rather than clashing with it.

He basically transfers all his ninja skills to his new friends that he’s accepted. So together with Shion and Nurugai, the group splits up around Horai Palace with clay objectives to escape the island and secure the elixir. Except the strategy doesn’t go exactly as planned. Gabimaru’s team walks straight into Ran, one of the Tencent, and he is a absolute nightmare matchup.

His water towel directly suppresses Gabimaru, meaning no matter how hard he pushes, he’s constantly being shut down. Now, although he defeats him multiple times and outpowers the Tensen, nothing is enough to stop regeneration. So, for the first time since learning this new power, Gabimaru has no winning path. Thus, he makes a decision that should kill him.

With no other options left, Gabimaru uses the leftover Mudan stingers, forcing his body to the brink of collapse in an attempt to unlock Flower Tower. This is a gamble. Flower Towel is the same power used by the Tensen to achieve immortality, but humans aren’t meant to wield it. Gabimaru almost goes insane but actually holds on to his sanity.

Somehow it all succeeds because his humanity returns by remembering the love of his life. Gabimaru then awakens more power that crosses beyond human limits. With flower towel, his body can now regenerate from otherwise fatal injuries, allowing him to fight through damage that would kill anyone else. Using this power, he overwhelms Ran. and Ran, he’s an idiot.

Remember what I said earlier? They fight like immortal beings and they can’t comprehend self-sacrifice. He expects his opponent to hesitate. But Gabimaru has already accepted death. This allows him to push forward by saving Yuzuriha’s life to her astonishment. All this time, he’s been drilled to think logically, but he made an emotional decision and saved his friend.

So, Gabimaru says he’s willing to stake everything into this fight to achieve his dream, saving Yuzuriha half to victory thanks to her earthwel. So, in a stroke of genius, Gabimaru realizes that Tencent still react to sensory stimuli the same way that humans do. He figures out that rapid flashes of light actually overstimulate the brain, causing a surge of dopamine that disrupts judgment and timing.

It’s a stalling tactic because Gabimaru understands that in their Kishi Kai transformation, it actually consumes massive amounts of time, meaning it can’t be sustained forever. So once their reserves are drained and the transformation ends, they actually become vulnerable. As a result, the team brings down a god, something no human has done before.

Although all the others also defeat their tensen opponents by awakening their latent abilities. Back in Japan, the Shogun grows impatient. Obsessed with immortality, he orders a second expedition almost immediately. This time stacked with all the elite forces. The expedition includes Iwagak Shinobi, led by Shija, Gabimaru’s obsessive pursuer, and Shugen, the strongest Yamada Asamon executioner in history.

As long as Gabimaru is alive, the myth is dead. That means the village loses its greatest weapon. So they send everything they have to erase this dude once and for all. As for Shuen, he believes justice must be absolute. Criminals are to be erased and hesitation only breeds chaos because to him order must be maintained even if it means sacrificing humanity itself.

He doesn’t think any criminal can be redeemed. However, as Gabimaru leaves to help the others, he’s confronted by ninja and even children. These kids were raised with stories about him, believing that becoming strong means becoming like Gabimaru. That’s why even the youngest Shinobi are disturbingly inhuman. They don’t fear death.

In fact, they crave the chance to fight our MC. And even dying at his hands is considered honorable. Now, that level of brainwashing shows how deeply the village erased humanity, which makes Gabimaru’s rebellion even more significant. After destroying them in an instant, Gabimaru activates his to senses.

He immediately realizes that something’s clearly wrong. Shija is already by the ship, stealing the elixir of life directly from Rien. Sagiri is safe, but Fui got taken out by Shugen. Why? While Shugen, he’s basically bashing crazy. Fucci’s death here hit different because Shuen, he basically kills him due to being an extremist, believing that no one can change.

Criminals are irredeemable and must be erased to preserve order. But Fui was driven by the desire to understand life. His partnership with Gant Suicide showed that even someone branded a criminal could form real bonds and act selflessly. Remember that they both killed a tensson together with the Chad going all in to save Fucci doing everything he can to let his new friend survive.

After all, Fucci was the first person to look at Ganten suicide without fear, studying him with curiosity instead of judging him like a criminal. So over time with their bond connecting, Fucci risked his life to save Gantin suicide from poison and later chooses to support him despite knowing he’s a violent criminal. Now with his sacrifice, Fucci proves that morality isn’t defined by the law that Shugen follows.

Because the so-called criminal understood humanity better than the executioner who killed him. That means Gabimaru can one day be redeemed and people like Shugen are wrong. However, with time running out, our MC pushes deeper into the palace, determined to take the elixir back before everything collapses. And that’s when the situation gets worse.

Zhu Jin reappears and this time fusing with the Bangkoko and becoming this big unstable flower Kaiju that is out to kill everyone on the island. The threat level jumps instantly because Banco is just not another Tencent. It is essentially their ultimate biological weapon created to protect the Tensen’s immortality by connecting to life force.

It possesses five tanden that represents the five elements. Each core feeds the other meaning if even one remains active the body regenerates completely. So this thing is so strong that for the first time Gabimaru cannot solve the problem alone. The team regroups and Aza Chobei is fighting on their side. Two of Shugen’s allies join in as well.

Not out of loyalty but out of necessity. So to kill the banco for good, all the five tanden must be destroyed at the same time. So the group splits up with Sagiri’s wood strengthening Gabimaru’s fire. They move together for the metal tanden, but they don’t make it far thanks to someone more frustrating than the Tensum themselves.

Shija intercepts them, forcing Gabimaru into the fight he’s been avoiding since the beginning of his life. That’s because Shija is everything wrong with Iwa Gakare and has a life without real meaning. Ever since Gabby Maru spared their life in a duel when they were a child, Shija became so obsessed with Gabimaru that they burnt their face so they would have a scar like his wife Yui.

Now most of all, Shija loves death because Iwa gakare had numbed their senses and stripped away their humanity. brushing against death became the only thing that felt real to Shija, the closest thing they had ever known to love. So whether it was being killed by Gabimaru or taking his title, Shija devoted themselves to him.

Shija is basically what Gabimaru the Holo was meant to be. And he can clearly see what he would have become if Yui, his wife, wasn’t in his life. He’s looking directly into a mirror. If Sagiri and everyone else did not see Gabimaru for who he really was, which is a human, he would be just like this messed up person.

So, their fight was so utterly brutal that Shija brings Gabimaru to the point of death on purpose. All to make Gabimaru into a monster out of his flower tout. On top of that, Shija gaslights Gabimaru into thinking that Yui is like everyone else in Iwagakare. a woman who just roleplayed a marriage. A woman without any pure emotions at all.

But they actually messed up because that was all Gabimaru needed to restore his humanity and get back up to fight because what this guy just confirmed is that 100% his wife is real. So now Gabimaru has every reason to give it his all and cook his enemy. Shija tries to stab Gabby Mararu in the hot, but he is totally unfazed and uses blaze full fire to burn both of them into crispy fried chicken.

However, as a final act of selfless luck, Shija makes a whistle out of their hair to command allak shinobi to off themselves so that they do not get in Gabimaru’s way. Furthermore, Shija confirms that Yui is indeed real and alive and asks if he and Garby would fight together again in the next slide

Shija basically dies happy. And it was only possible because Gabimaru became a human being, winning over the hollow identity that defined both of them. And finally, everyone reaches their assigned tendon of Bangkok striking at once. And for a moment, it looks like they won. Even still, Banco rises again, driven by its towel photosynthesis.

But before all their hard work is undone, Aza Chobei destroys the roots of the giant plant, ending the last of the Tensen, leaving only one enemy behind, the final boss, Rien. She has boarded the last ship to Japan. And her plan, well, it’s to turn millions into tan, drain their towel, harvest their life force, and use it to resurrect her dead master, Jofuku.

Well, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. So, the final boss has a final boss. Yeah. And this one is the root of everything. Joffuku is the true origin of the tensen. During the Xin dynasty, he was an alchemist serving China’s first emperor. the real historical emperor who was obsessed with immortality in our real world. Just like the legend of Shu Fu, Joffuku was sent across the sea to search for eternal life.

But when he arrived at the island and found no natural immortality waiting for him, h well, he decided to create it himself. Using towist principles and alchemy, Jofuku manipulated to fusing human bodies with plant life and engineered the 10 cent. Leen wasn’t just one of his creations. She loved him deeply and they were smashing. That’s why her entire plan revolves around resurrection.

Because to her, Jofuku was everything. But here’s the twist. After centuries of constant regeneration and tow manipulation, Joffus’s body suffered arborification. The very power he used to escape death actually consumed him. He slowly turned into a tree. Just like anyone who loses balance in towel, Rian hid this truth from the other tensen.

She is clinging to immortality to preserve her love. The tensson can regenerate, but it’s impossible to revive the soul. So, a large amount of tan is needed. Hence, the plan to go to Japan and kill everyone. But along the way, Rian faced off against Shugen, the strongest samurai. Here we discover that Shugen had sipped from the elixir of life and that gave him the same regeneration hacks as the tensen.

Ganten susai also gets in the way even cleaving the burning ship in half helping the entire team. But these two were only the opening act all to distract Rian because enter Gabimaru and Sagiri backed up by the rest of the surviving team. Clap your hands people. This is the final showdown like it’s the Avengers. So instead of trading blows and getting defeated, Rian forces Gabimaru’s flower tower into overdrive.

His regeneration spirals out of control, erupting into flowers, just like Jofuku, the man who started this entire story. Stability is everything for Tao. Strength must be balanced with weakness, reason with emotion, and so on and so forth. And just when Gabimaru is about to be lost completely, Sagiri makes her move.

She cuts away every part of his body that has fully transformed into flowers, then restrains what remains, holding him tightly to prevent his towel from running wild. This allows Gabimaru to survive and he powers up again with the will to live to stand by Saguri in their final battle together. But Gabimaru realizes something. To defeat Rian, they need to destabilize her towel.

And that is by destroying Jofuku, her lover. Gabimaru moves on to destroy the golden corpse and stops. This is because in front of him are two traditional wedding garments. The sight hits him harder than any attack. They remind him of his own marriage to Yui. And for the first time in this fight, Gabimaru feels empathy.

When he hesitates before destroying the Joffus statue, Shugen sees it as a failure. But that hesitation is actually his evolution. Garvey Maru no longer kills blindly. He understands love even in his enemy. But before he can act Shuen, he’s determined to finish the job and destroys the statue himself. He don’t give a [ __ ] about that sentimental value stuff and says Rayula are stupid.

This is all because of his childhood trauma. After losing his parents to criminals, Shugen wanted revenge and still bore all his anger issues even after a decade of training. All that energy made him committed to the shogun of Japan. Anyone who helped criminals, anyone related to criminals by blood, even his own clan, the Yamada Asimon, they were all his enemies.

But whilst his act of violence works and actually weakens, this becomes his own undoing. It is precisely why the story kills off Shugen here. He presses forward alone fighting Rien headon. Convinced that absolute justice must be carried out by his own hand. Rien is still powerful enough to strike him down during their clash.

He dies standing on his belief. But the truth is this idiot just couldn’t evolve into a better person. Gabimaru proves he has surpassed his world view. living on because of his evolution in emotion. Rian literally asks him about that. She grabs Gabimaru and asks why didn’t you do it and he answers that he is also married. Seeing the wedding garments reminded him of his own wedding and in that moment he understood her not as an enemy but as someone who loved deeply and couldn’t let go.

That confession unlocks Rien’s memories. She remembers her thousand-year journey with Jofuku, finally understanding the truth that immortality didn’t save love. It only prolonged the pain. So, with a single tow hand sign, Rien erases herself from existence, choosing to be reunited over eternity. Gabimaru had now saved the world from becoming an empty flower garden called Hell’s Paradise.

And whilst the survivors drift away on a life raft, Yuzuriha and Genensai, they joke about who actually deserves the shogun’s pardon. And on top of that, Sagiri, she’s still processing the fact that she’s become friends with criminals. So they all joke around whilst debating this, having fun. But then one of them mentions that if anyone could tame Gabimaru, are we not sure that his wife Yui must be an evil villain?

And that’s when our MC laughs like crazy for the first time to everyone’s surprise, imagining that his wife was a villain. My boy has finally become a human and not hollow, cherishing all the bonds he made on the island as they all declare themselves to be friends. Gabby Mararu tells them all of his stories about Yui and they all exchange their lives whilst drinking and eating food on their way back to Japan.

Now, out of all the characters, Getsuai receives the official pardon standing besides Ja. Meanwhile, this dude, he submits a false report to the Shogun so that way the others won’t be hunted down and can live a peaceful life. And along the way, he becomes head of the Yamada clan and he’s going to change it for the better and future as remember he was the one that actually helped them defeat Rian and thought, “Wait a second, those other executor [ __ ] they’re crazy and don’t know the value of life.

I don’t mind working with you guys. On top of that, this guy is so nice. Before parting ways, he quietly promised to Gabimaru that he’ll arrange a reunion with his wife. Gabimaru and Sagiri finally say their goodbyes, each bearing a smile that they are so meaningful to each other and helped each other along the way in their journey to understand what their purpose is.

So 10 days later at the designated meeting spot, Gabimaru finally sees his wife again. Ewa Gakaday is completely gone now by the way, thanks to the chief being executed for having his own agenda on the island, proving that this immortal man was a fraud all along. Now with their chains gone and freedom given, Yui and Gabimaru can finally spend the rest of their days living in peace.

Bro almost bust a nut as soon as he saw her, blushing and going crazy with happiness to see his wife. And with a time skip later, Yuzuriha and Sagiri pay them a visit, showing us that their friendships still bloom as a party has been arranged. The story ends with Gabimaru relaxing like anyone else, peacefully asleep for the first time in his life, becoming like a house cat.
